Richard Linklater @ TMT

Richard Linklater was the guest for today’s “Texas Monthly Talks” a TV show from the University TV station, KLRU.
He talked about his new film “Me & Orson Welles” and also about his next projects, to be shot in Texas.

Me and Orson Welles (2009) is a period-drama film directed by Richard Linklater and starring Zac Efron, Christian McKay, and Claire Danes. Based on Robert Kaplow’s novel of the same name, the story, set in 1937 New York, tells of a teenager hired to star in Orson Welles’ production of Julius Caesar, where he becomes attracted to a career-driven production assistant.

The film was shot in the Isle of Man, London, and New York in February, March, and April 2008, and is scheduled to be released in the US on November 25, 2009 and in the UK on December 4.

Austin Film Festival was “Precious”!

The Austin Film Festival was started in 1994 in Austin, Texas and is the first organization of its kind to focus on the writer’s unique creative contribution to the film and television industries. It has a number of events and services for emerging and professional writers and filmmakers.

Me & Catarina picked one film from the whole Festival: Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, a Lee Daniels American drama film, adapted from the 1996 Sapphire novel Push and produced by Oprah.

Very strong film, with a great piece of story and performances attached to it.

 

Jason Reitman’s new film “Up in the Air”

Jason Reitman showed his new film “Up in the air” to all the UT students that wanted to see it.
In the end he talked about his father, his youth, what it took to make his breaktrough with “Thank you for smoking” and all his work so far. Great talk from a very, very humble guy!

His new film Up in the Air is a 2009 American comedy-drama film directed by Jason Reitman and co-written by Reitman and Sheldon Turner. It is a film adaptation of the 2001 novel,Up in the Air, written by Walter Kirn.

George Clooney plays Ryan Bingham, a man who travels around the country to terminate corporate employees. According to Reitman, “The movie is about the examination of a philosophy—what if you decided to live hub to hub, with nothing, with nobody?“

Trip to San Antonio with Gavin

One of this weekends we (Me & Catarina) went to San Antonio with Gavin (a Theater Director staying at our Hotel).

We got to see the Alamo, originally known as Mission San Antonio de Valero, is a former Roman Catholic mission and fortress compound, now a museum, in San Antonio, Texas.

It was a very relaxed Saturday and we all appreciated it.

Beth Grant at UT

Hollywood actress Beth Grant gave a special lecture on what it takes to be a working character actor, and what it’s like to work with stars and A-list directors.

She will also share stories about working on amazing films and TV shows from Little Miss Sunshine to Six Feet Under.

You may know Beth Grant from Academy Award-winner No Country for Old Men, Academy Award-nominee Little Miss Sunshine, and various critical and cult favorites like Donnie Darko, Six Feet Under, The Office, and many others. It was a great insight for me.

Bartlett, Texas shooting a Music Video

Last weekend we (Me & Catarina) went to help as crew in a music video.
It’s was cool because it was in a real cowboy town where movies of the old west are often shot.
The day was great!

Trip to Enchanted Rock with Jenny

Jenny is a friend from Austin. She took us (Me and Catarina) to a german settlement (Fredericksburg) and to a state natural area called Enchanted Rock!

It consists of 1643.5 acres on Big Sandy Creek, north of Fredericksburg. The Rock is a huge, pink granite exfoliation dome, that rises 425 feet above ground, 1825 feet above sea level, and covers 640 acres. It is one of the largest batholiths (underground rock formation uncovered by erosion) in the United States.
